Foreigner among two LeT militants killed in Bemina

Srinagar, June 13: A foreigner and a local militant from Anantnag were killed and a policeman recieved minor injuries in a swift encounter in Bemina area of Srinagar.

A Pakistani militant identified as Abdullah Goujri and a local militant Adil Hussain Mir resident of Anantnag were killed in a swift encounter in Bemina area of Srinagar, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Zone said.

IGP said that this was the same group of militants who escaped from Zaloora forest area of Sopore, we have been tracking their movement, he said.

In a series of tweets, Kashmir Zone Police quoting Inspector General of Police Vijay Kumar, they said, “Two terrorists of proscribed terror outfit LeT neutralised by Srinagar Police in a swift encounter in Bemina area of Srinagar. One policeman also received minor injury.”

In another tweet, they said, “SrinagarEncounterUpdate:As per the documents and other incriminating materials, one of the killed terrorist has been identified as Abdullah Goujri, resident of Faisalabad, Pakistan. A big success.”

“SrinagarEncounterUpdate: As per documents recovered from another killed terrorist, he has been identified as Adil Hussain Mir @ Sufian @ Musab of Anantnag district. As per police records, he crossed over to Pakistan in 2018 on visit VISA from Wagah,” Kashmir Zone Police tweeted.

NIT Srinagar declares winter vacation amid ongoing semester exams

National Institute of Technology, Hazratbal Srinagar, has instructed all students to vacate hostels with immediate effect.

The instructions, the authorities said, are being made in pursuance of the declaration of winter vacations.

Handwara vegetable market gutted in fire incident

The Vegetable market (Sabzi Mandi) in Handwara area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district was Thursday gutted in a massive blaze, officials said.

An official said that the fire broke out in the wee hours today, left about 10 vegetable carts gutted in the incident, adding that vegetables worth huge amount got damaged in the incident.

Gulmarg among several areas receive fresh snowfall, rains lash plains

The famous tourist destinations including Gulmarg and Doodhpathri experienced fresh snowfall on Thursday while rains lashed plains, bringing the mercury down.

Reports said that several areas of Kashmir received fresh snowfall, which include Gulmarg and Doodhpatri as well.

The weatherman has predicted light to moderate rainfall at most places and light snowfall over middle and higher reaches today.

Meanwhile, the night temperature improved across Kashmir with Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir recording a minimum temperature of 5.3 degree Celsius.

The mercury in Qazigund settled at 5.0 degree Celsius while in Pahalgam it settled at 1.5 degree Celsius.

According to data, Konibal and Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 1.0 degree Celsius each.
