Amarnath Yatra: JK DGP chairs high level meeting at PCR Kashmir

Srinagar, June 14: The Director General of Police, J&K Dilbag Singh chaired a high level meeting of senior officers from Police, Civil Administration, and CAPFs to review the security arrangements and deployment of personnel for the forthcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra at the Police Control Room here today.

The meeting was attended by ADG CRPF, J&K Zone Daljit Singh Chawdhary, Spl DG CID, J&K R.R Swain, ADGP Jammu Zone Mukesh Singh,  IGP CRPF (Ops) Sector Kashmir, M S Bhatia, IGP CRPF Srinagar, Ms Charu Sinha,  IGP Kashmir, Vijay Kumar, IGP Traffic J&K, Vikramjit Singh, DIG Central Kashmir Sh. Sujit Kumar, DIG South Kashmir, Abdul Jabbar,  DIG SSB SHQ, (Spl Ops) Kashmir, Memen Basant Kumar,  DIG ITBP Kashmir, S.K Yadaw, senior officers from Civil Administration.

The DGP while speaking on the occasion directed for placing all possible security arrangements of Base Camps and strengthening the communication network. He stressed for effective and planned regulation of traffic management on national highway and other roads, parking of vehicles and deployment of forces on both the yatra routes of Pahalgam and Baltal etc.

The DGP emphasized upon the officers to make adequate use of modern security gadgets/technology including CCTVs, drones to further augment the security at important Yatra locations and en route. He stressed for keeping special focus on sensitive locations and base camps including parking places. He directed deployment of quick response teams to provide immediate assistance to the pilgrims as and when required.

Stressing for coordination mechanisms and communication systems among the counterparts of all the stakeholders of Army, CAPFs, Police and Civil administration, the DGP said that close coordination is must for better results. He directed for putting in place effective mechanism and planning for smooth and peaceful conduct of the yatra. The DGP instructed the officers to regularly inspect the security and other necessary arrangements put in place for Amarnath Ji Yatra pilgrims.

The DGP emphasized that local & highway security grids need to be kept fully geared up at all levels and joint efforts of all security forces must continue to conduct smoothly the pilgrimage of SANJY. He also reviewed the additional security measures being taken on the National Highway.

The DGP said that adequate manpower  has been made available to the jurisdictional officers and reiterated that the identified routes of travel and movement, Do’s and Don’ts for the yatris, helpline numbers should be made public and be circulated through every possible medium so that yatris could take note and ask for any assistance effortlessly.

The officers representing different forces apprised the DGP regarding the arrangements with regard to security and deployment of manpower in their respective areas of jurisdiction to ensure peaceful Yatra and keep the routes leading to the Holy Cave hassle free and safe for pilgrims.

Handwara vegetable market gutted in fire incident

The Vegetable market (Sabzi Mandi) in Handwara area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district was Thursday gutted in a massive blaze, officials said.

An official said that the fire broke out in the wee hours today, left about 10 vegetable carts gutted in the incident, adding that vegetables worth huge amount got damaged in the incident.

The official said that Fire and Emergency Services reached the spot and doused the flames with the help of Police.

Gulmarg among several areas receive fresh snowfall, rains lash plains

The famous tourist destinations including Gulmarg and Doodhpathri experienced fresh snowfall on Thursday while rains lashed plains, bringing the mercury down.

Reports said that several areas of Kashmir received fresh snowfall, which include Gulmarg and Doodhpatri as well.

The weatherman has predicted light to moderate rainfall at most places and light snowfall over middle and higher reaches today.

Meanwhile, the night temperature improved across Kashmir with Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir recording a minimum temperature of 5.3 degree Celsius.

The mercury in Qazigund settled at 5.0 degree Celsius while in Pahalgam it settled at 1.5 degree Celsius.

According to data, Konibal and Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 1.0 degree Celsius each.

NIT Srinagar and Islamia College suspend all academic activities for today

National Institute of Technology Dargah Hazratbal and Islamia College of Science and Commerce Hawal, Srinagar have suspended all academic activities for the day.

According to a communique issued by Principal, Islamia College, “The classwork of all the semesters and internal examinations, including T-series shall remain off today (30-11-2023) and will be rescheduled w.e.f tomorrow 01-12-2023.”

However, backlog examinations of 3rd semester shall be conducted as per schedule, reads the communique.

Soon after the announcement of Islamia College, the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Srinagar also announced the suspension of classwork for today.

According to a communique issued by Prof. Atikur Rehman, Incharge Registrar, NIT Srinagar, “This is to inform you that the Institute will observe a holiday on Thursday, November 30, 2023.”

All academic activities, including classes, examinations, and administrative work, shall remain suspended on 30/11/2023,” reads the communique.
