Handwara Narco-Terrorism Case: NIA recovers Rs 91 Lakh ‘Drug Proceeds’ in Samba

(Asian News Hub) – The National Investigating Agency on Friday claimed to have recovered Rs. 91 Lakh “Drug Proceeds” in a case related to Handwara Narco-Terrorism.

In a statement issued to the news agency—KNO, an official spokesperson said that NIA recovered proceeds of narcotics to the tune of Rs. 91 Lakhs in cash in Handwara Narco-Terrorism case (RC-03/2020/NIA/JMU).

He said that the case was initially registered as FIR No. 183.2020 dated 11.06.2020 at police station Handwara, wherein during checking of vehicles at Kairo Bridge, Handwara, one accused namely Abdul Momin Peer’s Hyundai Creta vehicle was intercepted by police and during search Rs. 20 Lakh along with two Kgs Heroin was recovered.

The statement reads that NIA had re-registered the case as RC-03/2020/NIA/JMU on 23.06.2020 and taken up the investigation.

It further reads that recently, NIA had arrested five accused persons from Srinagar and Jammu on March 03 and had taken them on remand for 15 days.

“Based upon examination and disclosure of arrested accused persons, NIA conducted searches and recovered proceeds of narcotics smuggling to the tune of 91 Lakhs. The amount was found concealed in a field in village Gurwal locality of Ramgarh in Samba district,” it reads.

The statement reads that the investigation revealed that one of the accused Romesh Kumar had received the cash proceeds of drugs from narco-smugglers based in Kashmir valley for self as well as for further channelisation to different entities.

It reads that further investigation in the case was going on.

Five residential houses, furniture factory gutted in Baramulla

A massive fire broke out in a residential locality in Kanlibagh district Baramulla in which a furniture factory and five residential houses were gutted and property worth Crore of rupees was reduced to ashes on Sunday late evening.

Quoting reports news agency Kashmir Scroll said that a fire broke out at in a furniture factory of Farooq Ahmad Najar in a residential locality on Kanlibagh-Baba Reshi road, which spread to nearby residential houses in jiffy in which the factory and five residential houses were destroyed.

An official said that the fire was put under control by the joint efforts of fire tenders, local police and army. He said no loss of life or injury was reported in the mishap.
