Srinagar, Feb 6: Former Director of Doordarshan and AIR Srinagar, Farooq Nazki, a Sahitya Academy award-winning poet, has passed away.
Nazki’s final moments occurred at Narayana Hospital in Katra. He served as the Director of Doordarshan & AIR Srinagar from 1986 to 1997.
In addition to his roles in the media and as a writer, Nazki edited “Daily Mazdoor” from 1960, focusing on labor class issues. He retired as Deputy Director General in 2000 and served as the media advisor to Chief Ministers Farooq Abdullah (1983 and 1990–2002) and Omar Abdullah (2010).

In 1995, he received the Sahitya Academy award in Kashmiri literature for his poetry book, “Naar Hyutun Kanzal Wanas” (Fire in the Eyelashes).
