In Awantipora, the police have taken decisive action against the notorious drug peddler Bakhtawar Ahmad Makroo by seizing a double-storied residential house valued at approximately twelve lakhs. This significant move, executed under section 68-F of the NDPS Act 1985, stems from the identification of the property as unlawfully acquired during a thorough investigation conducted by the police in Awantipora.
The residential house, owned by Bakhtawar Ahmad Makroo, is believed to have been acquired through illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, according to the preliminary findings of the police inquiry. Notably, Bakhtawar Ahmad Makroo is implicated in Case FIR numbers 20/2017 and 30/2022 of PS Awantipora.
Presently, the notorious drug peddler is under detention as per the provisions of the PIT-NDPS Act, and he is lodged at Central Jail Kot Balwal in Jammu. This decisive action underscores the unwavering commitment of the police to combat the pervasive drug menace in the region.
The local community in the area has lauded the initiative taken by the police in attaching the immoveable property, recognizing that it has been raised or used from the proceeds of illicit trafficking of narcotics by the drug peddlers operating within the Police District Awantipora. This step not only serves as a deterrent but also reinforces the police’s dedication to curbing the illegal drug trade and ensuring the safety and well-being of the community.
