A day before the Eid-ul-Adha festival, scores of J&K Bank’s mobile banking ‘mPay’ users complained that the application was not working, which left them in the lurch.

“This is not the first time, when the services are needed most, especially days before Eid, this mPay’s server goes down,” Faizaan Bhat, one of the users told the news agency KNO.
Slamming the J&K Bank authorities over the “breakdown” of mPay, scores of its users said the server was down while many said the app displayed an ‘error screenshot’ of the transaction.
“I am not carrying cash and wanted to make digital payment through mPay, but its breakdown put me in an embarrassing situation as all of my bakery stuff is packed,” Faizaan, who lives in Srinagar, said, adding, “I had to visit the ATM to withdraw the cash and take home the items.”
Fumed over the ‘breakdown’ of the mPay, the chairman of Kashmir Economic Alliance (KEA), Mohammad Yaseen Khan told KNO that it is beyond their understanding why the application goes down on festive occasions.
“If they have to collect the interest, all systems and timings will be up, but when it is the time for us to earn, the app goes down,” Khan said, adding, “Despite such advanced technology, the app goes down often on the days before Eid.”
“Is what they claim to be the leading bank in Jammu and Kashmir; is this how they provide services to the people?” Khan asked.
Another user said that even to make smaller payments, people prefer digital payments over cash, but that the sudden breakdown before Eid has left them with no option but to wait in queues to withdraw money from ATMs.
“This app is killing the concept of digital payments; there are other banks that also have mobile banking applications and are working fine, but when it comes to J&K Bank’s m-Pay, especially on Eid, it only disappoints us,” he said.
Similar complaints were received from other districts of the valley.
Meanwhile, seeking a comment from the J&K Bank authorities could not materialise as there was no response to the repeated calls made by this reporter.
