Expecting increase in waiting list quota this year, those in waiting list would likely be accommodated: Chairperson Safeena Beigh

At least 11500 applicants have been selected for Hajj-2023 while the Chairperson of Jammu & Kashmir Hajj Committee, Safeena Beigh said that the rest would likely to accommodate as there are expectations that the waiting list quota for the Union Territory will be increased to 2000 this year.
Talking to Asian News Hub (ANH), Safeena Beigh said that for the first time, J&K has highest-ever quota for Hajj pilgrimage this year.
She said that in two categories including general category and special category, 1320 people who are above 70 years old and 132 women who will perform Hajj without Mehram have been selected without draw of lots.
However, she said that a total of 14217 people had applied for the pilgrimage this year while 11500 people have been selected including above aged applicants and women without mehram.
About women without Mehram, she said that special facilities like separate rooms and other facilities will be provided to them.
She added that the people who are in the waiting list would likely be accommodated as they are expecting that the waiting list quota of 2000 this year for J&K.
About rise in Covid cases, she said that all the protocols will be followed in spirit.
