In a felicitation ceremony held at DC Office here, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla, Dr Syed Sehrish Asgar in presence of Senior Superintendent of Police, Rayees Mohammad Bhat and other senior officers today felicitated International Wheelchair Basketball Champion Ishrat Akthar, for winning Silver Medal at international level.
It is worth here to mention that Ishrat Akhtar, Kashmir’s first international wheelchair basketball player, has been selected to represent India once again by the Wheelchair Basketball Federation of India after a recent camp.

While interacting with Ishrat Akthar, the DC congratulated her for winning Silver Medal at international level and termed it a pride for Kashmir In general and district Baramulla in particular.
Speaking on the occasion, the DC asserted that overcoming disability, Ishrat Akhtar made her mark in international wheelchair basketball which is the greater inspiration for the youth to come forward in every field and excel in their careers.
She exhorted upon the youth to work with dedication and inculcate the habit of sports in their lives.
Further, the DC also said that district administration is committed for upgradation of sports infrastructure in the district in greater order to make every facility available for the youth.

SSP Baramulla also spoke on the occasion and said that Sports activities does not confine to physically fit persons but specially abled persons or the persons with disabilities have also proved their potential at different national and international arenas.
He said that our youth should take Ishrat Akthar as an inspiration.Moreover, Ishrat Akhtar also shared her experience of success and said that she had been working hard for this event and it is a proud moment for being selected second time to represent India at the international arena.
