Nawa Kadal blaze: Meet seven ‘fire fighters’ of downtown who risk lives to rescue people, douse flames

(Asian News Hub)- As the fire broke out in Tarbal area of Nawa Kadal, the locals rushed to the spot to help the affected families in saving their belongings. Among the locals, there were nearly eleven people who risked their lives in dousing the flames. Seven among them have received severe burn injuries and are currently admitted at Srinagar’s SMHS hospital.

According to the news agency—KNO, the seven injured persons have been identified as Javaid Ahmad Matto, Muzafar Ahmad Matto, Zahoor Ahmad Nara, Sharik Zahoor, Anas Wani, Mohsin Ahmad and Mumtaz Ahmad.

Shabir Ahmad, uncle of Sharik Zahoor said that the condition of almost all the injured persons is critical and are not even in a position to talk with anyone.

“It is not for the first time that they have helped the fire victims. In the earlier fire incidents, these injured persons have also rushed to the spot very quickly and helped dousing the flames,” Ahmad said.

Ahmad further said that during the massive blaze, the locals heard the cries of people, who were struck inside the houses following which they (seven injured persons) entered into the premises by risking their lives and rescued all of them. “At least five persons who were stuck inside were rescued by these brave heroes,” he said.

The youth when rescuing the people suffered severe injuries when a gas cylinder exploded in one of the two houses following which they were shifted to SHMS hospital for treatment.

The locals said that the seven people, who are living in the vicinity put every effort to douse the flames, which helped in preventing the spread of the fire further.

“We are proud of our children. We will always remember what they have done today,” Bashir Ahmad, a local said, adding that the situation would have been different in case the youth wouldn’t have made efforts to douse the flames on time.

Man dies as tractor turns turtle in Sopore

A man lost his life on Sunday morning as tractor turned turtle in Sopore area of north Kashmir’s Baramula district.

Quoting an official news agency KS reported that a man was critically injured on Sunday morning after a tractor in which he was travelling turned turtle at Badambagh.

He said soon after the incident, he was immediately taken to Sub District Hospital Sopore, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

A police officer confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Farooz Ahmad Bhat, son of Abdul Hamid Bhat resident of Badambagh.

Srinagar police on Saturday said to have arrested a Srinagar Municpal Corporation (SMC) Corporator for sexual harassment, outraging modesty and online stalking.

They said strong technical evidences in this matter were produced by the brave victim, the accused has been identified as Aqib Ahmed Renzu resident of Nishat Srinagar.

Srinagar police on X informed, “One SMC corporator Aqib Ahmed Renzu of Nishat Srinagar arrested for sexual harassment, outraging modesty and online stalking. Man slips to death while collecting firewood in central Kashmir

A man died after he slipped while collecting firewood in Rezan forest area in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Saturday.

An official told that Showkat Ahmad Tekri, son of Gh Hassan Tekri of Gujerbasti Rezan slipped and fell down from the upper reaches of the forest area, which resulted in his on spot death.

The heavy rainfall had triggered slippery conditions in the area.

He said that soon after the incident, police reached the spot and recovered his body.

“After medico-legal formalities, his body will be handed over to her family members for the last rites,” he said. KNO
