Srinagar, Jan 14: The residents of Hamza Colony in Kenihama area of Nowgam, Srinagar, said they have been facing severe water supply issues for the past five months due to a damaged pipeline in their locality.

Despite repeated pleas to the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department, the locals said the problem remains unresolved, leaving them distressed.

The residents alleged they have contacted PHE officials multiple times to report the damage. However, they claim that officials have been passing the responsibility from one office to another without taking any concrete steps to address the issue. “One of the sections is claiming that the ruptured pipeline doesn’t fall under their jurisdiction while the other also refuses to act by making the similar statement, thereby leaving us to lurch at large,” the residents said.

Five Dead, 2 Critical in Kargil Road Accident

A local resident, Mubashir Ahmad, expressing frustration, said they have been suffering due to the damaged pipeline for months. “Every time we approach the officials, we are told that it is the responsibility of a different office. We need a solution, not excuses,” he said.

“Water is a basic necessity, and the officials must take this issue seriously,” another resident said.

When contacted, a PHE official told that the department has taken note of the issue and will resolve it at the earliest. “We have taken necessary steps and will fix the damaged pipeline soon,” they said.
