In a media statement, police said that on March 16, Kokernag Police Station received a report about a missing girl. An investigation was launched immediately, during which technical evidence pointed to her possible abduction by Altaf Mir, a 31-year-old resident of Lawaypora, Srinagar.

An FIR was initially registered under sections 87 and 49 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). “As the investigation progressed, Mir was taken into custody for questioning. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime, leading police to recover the victim’s body from his residence in Lawaypora,” he said.
