Police organises drug de-addiction awareness programme in Pulwama

Police in Pulwama organised drug de-addiction awareness programme in collaboration with NGO ‘Kashmir Pulse’ at Town Hall Pulwama on Saturday.

DySP Hqrs Pulwama Showkat Rafiq Wani-JKPS was the chief guest and the programme was attended by lecturers, teachers, students of various schools and respectables of the area.

On the occasion, DySP Hqrs Pulwama in his inaugural speech highlighted the role of school management in identification of substance abusers and their role in remedial measures thereof. Thrust was also given to the psychological and social aspects of addiction. He also sought the cooperation of people in eradicating the social evils prevailing in the society particularly drug de-addiction. He highlighted the role of parents and said that parents had a greater responsibility in social development of a child as they act as the first teacher and guide of their wards.

The chairing officer also spoke about preventive measures and the role of J&K Police in the prevention of drug addiction. He highlighted the socio-economic factors contributing to drug addicting and preventive measures thereof and also explained the ways to know the warning signs and symptoms of a drug addict. He further said that to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, public cooperation is necessary and Police is always available for help to those who are victims of this addiction and will make all possible efforts to help and rehabilitate those affected persons.

Speaking on the occasion, Paramedical staff also highlighted the need for understanding psychological and legal aspects. Detailed deliberations on various aspects of drug addiction and preventive measures especially in youth were also discussed.

At the end, the participants appreciated the role of Police for conducting such awareness programmes and building a bridge of trust between police and the youth.
