Srinagar, April 14: In two tragic incidents reported from South Kashmir on Monday, a non-local labourer lost his life to drowning in the Jhelum river at Pampore, while a minor tourist girl died after being hit by an unknown vehicle in Pahalgam.
According to media reports, 45-year-old Nami Sahani, son of Sarjo Sahani and a resident of Bihar, drowned in the Jhelum at Patalbagh area of Pampore. Sahani was working as a sand labourer in the area.
Following the incident, a police team led by SHO Pampore launched a rescue operation, and the body was retrieved and shifted to Sub District Hospital (SDH) Pampore for medico-legal formalities. Police have taken cognizance of the incident and started further investigation.
In a separate incident, a minor tourist girl identified as Halma Hasina (04), daughter of Hashim Quraishi of Mulganj Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, was fatally injured after being hit by an unknown vehicle near the selfie point in Pahalgam.
She was initially taken to Pahalgam hospital and later referred to GMC Anantnag, where doctors declared her brought dead.
Police have initiated investigations in both cases.
