Srinagar, Mar 05: Hurriyat leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has strongly condemned the remarks made by a BJP member in the assembly regarding the martyrs of July 13, 1931, calling the comments “outrageous” and an insult to the sacrifices of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Taking to social media platform X, Mirwaiz said the martyrs were “killed in cold blood for standing up for the rights and dignity of the oppressed people of J&K.” He asserted that these sacrifices are part of the collective memory of the people and any attempt to malign them will be firmly resisted.
The martyrs of July 13, 1931, who were gunned down by Dogra forces outside the Central Jail in Srinagar while protesting against the then autocratic rule, are widely revered across J&K. The day is observed as Martyrs’ Day in remembrance of their struggle.
