Jammu, Feb 6: Today marks a historic day for Jammu and Kashmir as the Lok Sabha has passed the Constitution (Jammu and Kashmir) Scheduled Tribes Order (Amendment) Bill, 2024. This crucial step aims to grant Scheduled Tribe status to Pahari, Padari, Koli, and Gadda Brahmins, LG Manoj Sinha said in a statement.

He said, this community has long sought this reservation, and under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, it has been ensured that the inclusion of these communities in the Scheduled Tribe category will not impact the current level of reservation for Gujjar, Bakarwal, and other existing Scheduled Tribe communities.

The reservation for Gujjar, Bakarwal, and other existing Scheduled Tribe communities will remain unchanged. The new Scheduled Tribes will receive reservation in a manner that avoids any impact on the already listed communities.

Once this bill is passed in the Rajya Sabha, the Jammu and Kashmir administration will issue the necessary notification on reservation. This notification will guarantee that individuals in the existing list of Scheduled Tribes continue to receive the same level of reservation. The administration is committed to building a Jammu and Kashmir focused on balanced development and inclusive growth, benefiting all sections of society, he said.

LG also appealed all citizens and elders of the community to fulfill their responsibilities and promptly refute any misinformation being spread by a few mischievous elements regarding the status of reservation.

LG Manoj Sinha reiterated that the inclusion of new communities in the list of Scheduled Tribes will not affect the current level of reservation available to existing Scheduled Tribe communities, such as Gujjar, Bakarwal, and other tribal communities.
