New Delhi, Mar 29: A day after Myanmar was shaken by a strong earthquake that caused widespread damage, the military junta announced on Saturday, March 29, 2025, that about 700 people had died and over 1,600 had been injured. At least six people lost their lives in Bangkok, Thailand, when a high-rise that was still under construction collapsed.
The 7.7 magnitude quake struck at midday, with an epicenter near Mandalay, Myanmar ’s second-largest city. Aftershocks followed, one of them measuring a strong 6.4 magnitude.

Myanmar’s government said blood was in high demand in the hardest-hit areas. China, Russia and India have dispatched rescue teams, while U.S. President Donald Trump has also assured assistance.
