Washington, May 30: Pakistan has once again made it clear that it will not recognise Israel unless an independent Palestinian state is established, signalling that Islamabad is unlikely to join the Abraham Accords despite renewed pressure from US President Donald Trump.

Speaking at a press conference at Pakistan’s embassy in Washington after meeting US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s longstanding support for the Palestinian cause.

Asked about Trump’s recent remarks encouraging several Muslim-majority countries to join the Abraham Accords as part of broader diplomatic efforts linked to Iran, Dar avoided commenting directly on the proposal but reiterated Pakistan’s position on Palestine.

“Pakistan remains steadfast in its position on Palestine and Gaza,” Dar said, adding that there could be no change in Islamabad’s stance towards Israel until a Palestinian state is established.

The Abraham Accords, brokered during Trump’s first term in 2020, resulted in the normalisation of ties between Israel and several Arab nations. Earlier this week, Trump suggested that countries participating in efforts aimed at resolving tensions with Iran should also consider joining the accords.

Pakistan, however, continues to remain among the countries that do not recognise Israel and maintains that a two-state solution is essential before any future normalisation can take place.
