Srinagar, Jun 18: In a story of redemption, a young boy from Khumriyal, Kupwara, who was once on the verge of being booked under the Public Safety Act (PSA), has now cleared the prestigious NEET examination — thanks to a timely intervention by Member of Legislative Assembly from Handwara, Sajad Lone.

Zubair-ul-Islam Bhat’s future once seemed uncertain. With a PSA dossier reportedly ready, his family turned to Lone for help. Touched by their plea, Lone decided to step in. “He is just a couple of years older than my children. I was convinced Zubair is special and deserves a chance,” Lone wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

THE STORY OF ZUBAIR UL ISLAM BHAT .

This is Zuber @bhattweetss from Khumriyal. Congratulations on passing NEET.

Zuber has excelled academically. But Zuber is much more than a young boy who has cracked NEET.

Lone approached the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kupwara and personally vouched for Zubair’s conduct. Despite initial hesitation, the SSP eventually agreed to reconsider. Lone recalls the call he received: “He said he had given it thought and was now convinced Zubair deserves a chance.”

That chance made all the difference.

A year later, Zubair has not only stayed out of trouble but excelled — securing a place among NEET qualifiers and preparing to enter the field of medicine.

Lone praised the SSP’s decision and extended thanks to the Office of the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, stating that such a compassionate decision would not have been possible without their support.

“Victory in Kashmir lies in love and compassion,” Lone said, urging society to recognize the value of second chances. “Let us all rejoice in Zubair’s success. His story is the triumph of hope over despair.”

Zubair’s journey from a PSA threat to a medical career is a powerful reminder of the life-changing impact of empathy, trust, and timely action.
