Srinagar, Jun 17: The Principal District and Sessions Court Ganderbal has sentenced a man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment in a 2017 rape case.
The convict, Ghulam Mohammad Lone, son of Abdul Samad Lone and a resident of Pethpora Chattergul, was found guilty under FIR No. 27/2017 registered at Police Station Kangan under Sections 376 and 451 of the Ranbir Penal Code.
According to police statement, the case was registered following a complaint by a woman from Pethpora Chattergul on April 13, 2017. The woman alleged that Lone forcibly entered her home and raped her, which later led to pregnancy.

After a thorough investigation and trial, the court delivered its judgment, sentencing Lone to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposing a fine of ₹1,00,000.
The case was prosecuted by Shafat Ahmad, Public Prosecutor for Sessions Court Ganderbal, who represented the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
Police said the conviction reflects the judiciary’s and law enforcement’s commitment to ensuring justice in crimes against women.
