Jammu, Jun 10: Thirty-five people from Kotliparran village in Manjakot tehsil of Rajouri district have been hospitalised after falling ill due to a suspected waterborne disease. Health officials collected water samples and sealed local water sources to prevent further spread.

A doctor from the medical team said all patients are stable, though four were referred to Government Medical College (GMC) Rajouri for advanced care. The affected people had symptoms like stomach pain, fever, diarrhoea, and dehydration — commonly seen in cases of acute gastroenteritis.

“Water samples have been collected from three village wells and sent for testing. Until the results come, the wells have been sealed,” the doctor added.

The health department has taken quick action, and officials are monitoring the situation closely. They suspect the illness may have been caused by drinking contaminated water.

This incident comes months after a mysterious illness in Badhaal village of the same district claimed 17 lives, including 13 children and four adults, between December 2024 and January 2025. Following that outbreak, the village was declared a containment zone, and residents were shifted to a quarantine centre for over a month.

Authorities have assured that all necessary steps are being taken to protect public health and avoid any repeat of the earlier tragedy.
