Srinagar, Jan 30: The residents of Nowshera’s Usmaniya Masjid Lane in Lakhripora, Srinagar, on Wednesday expressed frustration over an incomplete drainage system that has remained non-functional for nearly a decade.

Locals said the drainage was dug almost 10 years ago but has not yet been connected to the main sewage line, causing wastewater to flow back into their homes.

“We have been facing this issue for years now. Every time it rains, our houses get flooded because the drainage is not linked to the main sewage system,” said Mir Rouf Ahmad, a local resident.

Another local, Mir Nazir Ahmad, said authorities have repeatedly ignored their pleas. “We have approached officials several times, but nothing has been done. We are suffering, especially during winter and heavy rainfall,” he said.

Ghulam Rasool Rather, another resident, urged authorities to address the issue immediately saying, it has been a decade. How much longer do we have to wait? The situation is unbearable.

When contacted, officials told that the issue would be taken up with higher authorities and resolved soon.
