Udhampur, Dec 08: A tragic incident of fratricide in Udhampur early this morning, leaving two police personnel dead.

According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Udhampur, Amod Nagpure, the incident occurred around 6:30 AM when Rehambal Police Station received information about gunfire involving a police vehicle traveling from Sopore to Talwara.

The vehicle was carrying three police personnel at the time of the incident. Preliminary investigations reveal that shots were fired using an AK-47, the service weapon. Two personnel succumbed to bullet injuries, while the third officer remains unharmed.

No Major Snowfall Likely in Kashmir for the Next 10-12 Days

Both deceased officers hailed from Kashmir, with one being a resident of Srinagar and the other from Sopore. Their bodies have been sent to Government Medical College (GMC) Udhampur for postmortem examination.

“Based on forensic and initial findings, it appears to be a case of fratricide followed by suicide,” SSP Nagpure said. Senior police officers, including the SHO Rehambal, are investigating the matter further to establish the exact sequence of events.

Further details are awaited as the investigation continues.
