Gulmarg, Mar 12: Reacting to the ban imposed on Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir led Awami Action Committee (AAC) under Unlawful Activities and Prevention Act (UAPA) for five years, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday said that these issues don’t fall under the jurisdiction of the elected government.

Replying to a query whether the ban imposed on Awami Action Committee was a consequence of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq criticizing the Gulmarg event, Omar said, “No, you cannot say that. I am not aware of the purpose for which it (AAC) has been banned. These issues don’t fall under the jurisdiction of the elected government. The reasons behind banning the organization were not shared with us.”

He said, “On principle, we are not in favour of such actions. As far as Mirwaiz is concerned, he has not said anything wrong since he has been released from house arrest. We don’t know the reasons behind this ban, but we will see what to do in the future,” he said.

Replying to another query about BJP claiming that the hotel which hosted the fashion show is owned by one of his close relatives, the Chief Minister said, “ I have spoken over the issue in the Assembly. If anything that has taken place is against the law, action will be taken.” (KNO)
