Shopian Police Crack Down on Black Marketing, Seize 2200 Litres of Illegal Kerosene and Diesel

Srinagar, Jan 04: Police in Shopian, in a significant operation against black marketing, seized 2200 litres of illegal kerosene and diesel from a shop in Karlcheck Berthipora and arrested the accused.

In a media statement, a police spokesman said acting on a specific information about selling of kerosene oil in black market at Karlcheck Berthipora area of Shopian, a Police party headed by SHO PS Keller and DO Berthipora along with Executive Magistrate conducted search in the Shop of one Showkat Ahmad Hajam son of Ab Gani Hajam resident of Karlcheck Berthipora and seized 11 barrels containing 1600 ltrs of kerosene oil and 600 ltrs of Diesel from his shop.

He said accordingly, a case FIR No. 02/2025 U/S 3/7 E.C Act at P/S Keller was registered, the accused was arrested and investigation has been set into motion. Preliminary investigation reveals that the accused was selling the Kerosene oil illegally in black market.

Source of procurement of subsidised kerosene oil is being investigated and the officials involved in facilitating black marketing shall also be dealt as per law, he said.

Persons found indulging in illegal activities shall be dealt with as per law. Community members are requested to share information regarding the crimes in their neighbourhood with their concerned police units, the spokesman added.
