Gang of burglars busted in Budgam, property worth lakhs recovered

Budgam police on Monday said to have successfully busted a notorious burglar gang and recovered a substantial quantity of stolen Property worth lakhs.

In a statement issued, a police spokesman said on October 21, a written complaint was received by Police station Khansahib from one Aijaz Ahmad Ganie S/O Khazir Mohammad Ganie R/o Kachipuran Khansahib to the effect that during intervening night of 19/20 October 2023 some theives have barged into his house and stolen copper utensils, high-end clothing, artificial jewelry and gold items, collectively valued at several lakhs of rupees.

He said, in response to this complaint, Police registered a case under FIR No. 148/2023, with charges under Sections 457 and 380 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

During prompt action and exhaustive efforts, some suspects were questioned and one suspect identified as Farooq Ahmad Ganie, @Dil Jalay was subjected to rigorous questioning. During the interrogation, he confessed his involvement in the burglary and revealed the whereabouts of the stolen items, leading to their swift recovery, which included copper utensils, clothing, artificial jewelry, and gold articles.

As the investigation continued, the suspect disclosed the names of his accomplices involved in similar thefts. Subsequently, Asif Rashid Mir, also known as “Ubaid,” S/o Ab. Rashid Mir R/o Dabipora and Maqsood Ahmad Gojri S/o Gh. HassanGojri R/o Soznipora, were brought in for questioning. The duo admitted their involvement in multiple theft cases, and the subsequent searches resulted in the recovery of a range of stolen property. These items, including laptops, desktops, LED screens, gas cylinders, sheep, copper utensils, inverters, batteries, generator,water motor and pipes, collectively valued at approximately 4-5 lakhs, were reclaimed.

In addition, one more suspect Showkat Ahmad Dar S/o Gh. Nabi Dar R/o Rawalpora Watrihail was also arrested in connection with his involvement as receiver of stolen property.

These arrests with subsequent recoveries have resolved three cases under investigation at Police Station Khansahib viz 148/2023, 129/2023 and 99/2023. The police continues to pursue the investigation with the expectation of more recoveries and arrests in the near future, the spokesman added.

An unidentified girl allegedly jumps into river Jhelum in Sopore area of district Baramulla on Wednesday afternoon.

Reports said that an unidentified girl jumped into river Jhelum from a bridge near Jamia Masjid Sopore this afternoon.

Srinagar among several places record coldest night of season

The minimum temperature has plummeted further in Kashmir while Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir recorded the coldest night of the season at minus 2.0 degree Celsius.

Several places across Kashmir including Srinagar, Qazigund, Ganderbal, Pahalgam, Kupwara, Shopian, Bandipora and Baramulla recorded coldest night of season.

In Qazigund, the mercury settled at minus 2.0 degree Celsius while in Gulmarg, a minimum temperature of minus 2.2 degree Celsius was recorded.

ADGP law & order chairs joint security review meeting at PCR Kashmir

In order to strengthen and synergise the security grid of District Srinagar, ADGP Law and order Vijay Kumar chaired a joint meeting of Police and CRPF in Police Control Room Srinagar.

A police spokesman in a statement issued to Asian News Hub said, IG CRPF Ajay Kumar Yadav, IGP Kashmir V.K Birdi, DDIB, DIG CKR, DIG CRPF North & DIG CRPF South, SSP Srinagar, SSP PCR Kashmir, all the Nodal COs of CRPF, SP Cargo Srinagar, all Zonal SPs and SDPOs of Srinagar participated in the meeting.

During the meeting, a detailed security plan of Srinagar district was discussed in threadbare where in CRPF and Police were acquainted with their new roles besides suggestions were also taken from the field officers to have a fair idea of the shortcomings, avoid confusion at the cutting edge in order to make it a perfect and comprehensive CT grid.

Besides, ADGP L&O, IG CRPF and IGP Kashmir also contributed their valid suggestions. ADGP stressed upon all the officers that idea of a perfect security grid is only possible if the things discussed are implemented on ground in letter and spirit.

ADGP has focused upon strengthening function of joint police control room and better communication mechanism between field officers of CRPF and JKP in city. Area domination of water bodies was discussed and included in area domination plan in today’s meeting.

He has also instructed SSP Srinagar to conduct joint mock drill to handle post terror incident situations in city. ADGP Kashmir reinforced the commitment to dealing strictly with individuals disrupting the peace and emphasized the need for stringent actions under the law.

ADGP Kumar emphasized the necessity to strengthen the CI grid and enhance the basic functioning of police stations through effective supervision. The ADGP’s guidance and directives aim to fortify security measures and maintain a secure and peaceful environment in the district.
