DGP lays foundation stone of multi storeyed buildings at Bhagwanpora, Sangam in Sgr

Srinagar, Sept 12: The Director General of Police J&K Dilbag Singh laid the foundation stone of two multi-storeyed conventional structures, one each at Bhagwanpora & Sangam in Srinagar district.

DIG CKR Sujit Kumar, DIG Armed Kashmir Shahid Mehraj, SSP Srinagar, AIsG of PHQ, SSP Security Kashmir, CO & 2IC 237 CRPF Bn., Xen Police Construction Division and other jurisdictional officers attended the ceremonies.

Addressing the local citizens of the area at Sangam the DGP said it has always been an endeavour of the Police department to come closer to its people in order to secure their lives & property and added that today’s foundation stone laying ceremony is a part of that endeavour. He appreciated and expressed his gratitude to the people of the area for providing their support and also a piece of adjacent land for constructing a police building. He said that the Police officials posted in these areas are for people’s security so that society at large is comfortable.

He directed the jurisdictional officers to take necessary steps to solve the grievances of the people on priority. He said that the J&K Police is also expecting and getting full support and cooperation from people in maintaining peace and order. He said that to secure the bright future of our youth, Police and People have to work together. Past which has given pain has to be left behind so as to provide a peaceful environment to our coming generations, he said.

The DGP said that the situation in J&K has improved a lot during the past 3 to 4 years, and the working of police and other forces has been appreciated and a mutual respect among the personnel of police/forces & the people is apparent, he added. He said J&K Police personnel come from the same society and work for the betterment of his own society. He complimented Police & forces for showing patience and restraint during tough times while maintaining peace & order. He said that the impressions about some areas are also changing now. We have to continue our work together for the peace and prosperity of Jammu and Kashmir, he emphasized on the people of the area.

Speaking of the new challenge of narcotic terrorism the DGP said that it’s high time to take action against the menace. He said that the JKP’s Drug-de-addiction Center which is functional in the downtown area is providing all necessary facilities and services to the drug addicted youth. He said that during his visit to the centre few days back, the effected persons under treatment in the center thanked JKP for its services in saving the young lives. He said that those youth who were trapped unknowingly in the drug abuse and have acknowledged that the path of drug addiction as a path of destruction should work as role models to other youth and advise them about the ill effects of the addiction. He appealed to the locals of the area to discuss and guide the youth through mosques & community meetings to stay away from the menace. He said that Pakistan is continuously supplying drugs with an aim to damage the mind and health of our youth and ruin their future. He said that all of us have to play a role to save our youth from destruction.

Xen PCD Shri Kamal Kishore explained the drawing plans of these buildings to the DGP. He informed that these five storey buildings are spread over the 3100 sq. ft. area each and will involve a cost of Rs. 529 lacs at each place. These buildings have many facilities for officers & jawans.

No transparency in ongoing anti-encroachment drive: KCC&I

Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industries (KCC&I) on Thursday said that there is no transparency in the ongoing anti-encroachment drive launched by the government.

Addressing a news conference, Sheikh Ashiq, president of KCC&I, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said that there is a need to set accountability in the ongoing anti-encroachment drive and that a formal order should be issued in this regard so that the people are aware about it completely.

“We have talked to the higher ups today after the shops were sealed at Aftab Market yesterday and we have been assured that no such measure involving the livelihood of people will be taken,” he said.

He said that they are not here to shield the land mafia and those who have grabbed the land, but the livelihood should not get affected and thus a formal order in this regard is imperative to end the chaos.

“We have urged the government to come clear in this regard. We have been assured that the chaos will end soon,” he said.

P K Pole is new JK Chief Electoral Officer

The Election Commission of India has approved the appointment of Divisional Commissioner Kashmir P.K Pole as Chief Electoral Officer of Jammu and Kashmir.

In a notification issued by Secretariat of the Election Commission of India, a copy of which lies with Asian News Hub (ANH) reads, in exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 13A of the Representation of the People Act, 1950 (43 of 1950), the Election Commission of India in consultation with the Government of Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir hereby designates Pandurang
Kondbarao Pole, IAS (AGMUT:2004) as the Chief Electoral Officer for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir with effect from the date he takes over charge and until further orders in place of Hirdesh Kumar, IAS.

Pandurang Kondbarao Pole shall cease to hold and hand over the charge of all or any charges of work under the Government of Jammu and Kashmir, which he may be holding before such assumption of office.

Pandurang Kondbarao Pole while functioning as the Chief Electoral Officer, Jammu and Kashmir shall not hold any additional charge whatsoever under the Government of Jammu and Kashmir except that he should be designated Secretary to the Government in charge of Election Department in the State Secretariat, reads the notification.

Shops that were sealed at Aftab Market in Srinagar reopened

All shops that were sealed in Aftab Market in Srinagar yesterday were reopened on Thursday.

An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the shops were unsealed as the administration is concerned about the livelihood of the shopkeepers.

He said as the shops have been unsealed, rest of the process will follow.

Meanwhile, Kashmir Traders Alliance (KTA) president, Aijaz Shehaldar told KNO that he along with Lal Chowk Traders Association General Secretary Sheeraz Ahmad met Tehsildar South over sealing of 25 shops at Aftab Market.

He said they were assured that the shops will be unsealed today.

Notably, 25 shops were sealed yesterday at Aftab Market after a complainant claimed that the land was illegally occupied where these shops were raised.
