Srinagar, March 23 (ANH): A student of GDC Bijbehara died due to electrocution while playing volleyball at the college on Thursday afternoon.

An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a student identified as Umer Farooq, son of Farooq Ahmed Bhat of Dargund Sirigufwara, a student of 2nd year at Degree College Bijbehara was electrocuted while playing volleyball at the college.
He came in touch with a live wire when he went to collect the ball and fell unconscious.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital, however, he died on the way to hospital.
Soon after the incident, the students of the college raised slogans against the college administration and demanded investigation in this regard.
Principal GDC Bijbehara Muzzafar Ahmad told KNO that since 2015, a high tension wire is passing through the ground and the then principal had raised the issue with PDD to shift the wire and PDD shifted it outside the fence of the college but its height hasn’t been kept so high.

He said several times PDD was informed about the issue but nothing has been done and today when ball went outside the fence and student while trespassing tried to collect the ball came in contact of live wire and died.
