Youth who introduced football in Shopian village cracks NEET

Srinagar, Sept 10: A youth from Shopian who introduced football in his area qualified NEET UG-2022 in the very first attempt with flying colours.

Suhaib Ayoub Bhat son of Mohammad Ayoub Bhat of Pargochi area of South Kashmir’s Shopian has secured 659 points in NEET UG-2022, KNO reported.

Suhaib told KNO that he had divided his time in such a way that he was able to give time to studies, sports, helping family and other things.

“It is not necessary to be a bookworm to qualify for the exam but studying for a few hours on a daily basis is must to qualify any prestigious exam,” he said. “I worked hard and also gave time to playing football and was going to other villages to learn and play football,” he said, adding , presently there are dozens of youth in his village for whom playing football is a passion but it was possible only due to my efforts.

He gave credit of his success to the Almighty, parents and teachers saying shortcuts don’t work but hard work matters.

“Becoming a doctor was my dream which has come true,” he added.

ICC T20 World Cup 2022: Tickets for India vs Pakistan match at MCG sold out within minutes

Srinagar, Sept 15: Tickets for India’s match against arch-rivals Pakistan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in the T20 World Cup 2022 on October 23 have been sold out, the International Cricket Council (ICC) said on Thursday.

Even additional standing room tickets were “snapped up within minutes of going on sale”, the ICC said. The global cricket body said that over 500,000 tickets have been sold for the upcoming mega event in Australia, which gets underway next month. India and Pakistan will face off in their opening Super 12s fixture.

“The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 is set to welcome fans of all ages and backgrounds, with over 500,000 fans already securing their place to the event that begins in one month’s time,” the ICC said in its release.

Night Cricket Tournament culminates in Downtown, Srinagar

Srinagar, Sept 14: The much fan fared Night Cricket tournament being played in Gani Memorial Stadium, Rajouri Kadal Srinagar culminated with the grand final today.

The tournament was organized by Gani Memorial Cricket Association in collaboration with J&K Sports Council.

The final match of the tournament was played between Makhdoomi-XI and Kashmir-XI.

Makhdoomi-XI after winning the toss elected to bowl, a decision which somewhat seemed to go well in their favour initially but it was the heroics of Abid Nabi who scored 68 runs to spoil their party. J&K’s former opener and flamboyant batter Adil Reshi also contributed 27 runs to the team total. Kashmir-XI piled up a huge task for their opponents scoring 191 with the loss of 6 wickets in their allotted quota of 20 overs. For Maqdoomi-XI, Sameer Bell and Rafiq Baba scalped 3 and 2 wickets respectively while other bowlers looked out of sorts.

In response Makhdoomi-XI fell like a pack of cards and none of their batters except Momin Sami and Sajad Ganai could offer any challenge to the tight line bowled by the opponents. Momin’s 62 runs and Sajad’s 26 was the only saving grace for the team which bundled at 137 runs.

For Maqdoomi-XI, Abid Nabi and wrist spinner Gowhar claimed 3 wickets each handing and helping the team lift the coveted Gani Memorial T-20 Cup by 54 runs.

The former ace cricketer of J&K Abid Nabi was awarded player of the match. He was also declared player of the series as well as best bowler of the tournament.

Winning team received a cash prize of rupees fifty thousand while as runner up were awarded rupees twenty five thousand.

Divisional Sports officer Nuzhat Farooq presided over the function as chief guest while as Maqsood Ahmad Deputy Manager; Gani Memorial Stadium was guest of honour on the occasion.

The Chief Guest distributed the prizes among the participants in the end and assured them of all the support from J&K Sports Council in future.

Many cricket buffs praised the J&K Sports Council’s special initiative ‘My Youth My Pride’ which they felt offers equal opportunity to all players to showcase their skills.

Australia to tour Pakistan after 24 years

Melbourne, Feb 04 (ANH): Cricket Australia (CA) on Friday announced that the Australian men’s team will tour Pakistan for the first time since 1998. Pakistan said it expected a “keenly contested series”, UNI reported.

“Cricket Australia is pleased to confirm the Australian men’s team tour of Pakistan has been endorsed by the CA Board,” it said.

The tour consist of three Test matches and as many as ODIs besides a T20 match.  

The Tests will be part of the ICC World Test Championship while the ODIs are linked to the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League.

It is the first time since 1998 that the Australian men’s squad will tour Pakistan, as per UNI.

CA CEO Nick Hockley said: “I would like to thank the PCB and both the Pakistan and Australian governments for ensuring the tour will proceed for the first time in 24 years. This is a historic occasion and important for the global growth and health of the game.

 “I would also like to thank the Australian Cricketers Association and the players, coaches, support teams, staff and security experts for their collaboration in the planning for the tour.

“We are looking forward to an exciting series between two world-class teams.”

PCB Chief Executive Faisal Hasnain said: “We are pleased that the Cricket Australia Board has formally approved their side’s five-week tour itinerary and confirmed that their best available players will visit Pakistan for the first time in 24 years.

“We are really excited to host Pat Cummins and his players, and look forward to a competitive series that will comprise three Tests, three ODIs and a T20I.

“Australia will arrive at the back of strong performances in their home series against England. Our team has been playing excellent cricket resulting in our players sweeping the ICC Awards. This braces for a keenly contested series, something that the fans will thoroughly enjoy and remember for a long time.”

There have been some changes to the original schedule and the fixtures for the three-Test series.

As per the revised schedule, the three ODIs are to be played from March 29 to April 3 and one-off T20 match to be played on April 5 in Rawalpindi.

The squads for the same will be announced in the coming days.

Test series schedule:

1st Test, March 4-8 in Rawalpindi

2nd Test, March 12-16 in Karachi  

3rd Test, March 21-25 in Lahore

ODI Series:

1st ODI, March 29 in Rawalpindi              

2nd ODI, March 31 in Rawalpindi

3rd ODI, April 2 in Rawalpindi

The only T20I is to be played on April 5 in Rawalpindi
