Shopian, Aug 21: Police have detained the husband and in-laws of a 27-year-old woman who died under suspicious circumstances in Takibal Reban area of Zainapora, Shopian.
The deceased has been identified as Urfi Jan, wife of Shawket Ahmad Lone. She was brought dead to a hospital in Yaripora late Wednesday night. While initial reports suggested she had suffered a heart attack, her family has alleged foul play and accused the in-laws of being responsible for her death.
A police official said that Urfi Jan’s husband, his brother, and father have been taken into custody for questioning. “The cause of death will be ascertained only after the post-mortem report is received. Legal proceedings have been initiated and investigations are underway,” the official said.
