Police in Tangmarg have registered a case and detained an accused after a video showing an elderly man being assaulted went viral on social media, officials said on Thursday.
The video, which surfaced online earlier in the day, allegedly shows a man assaulting an elderly person, reportedly his father. Police said they took cognisance of the matter after the clip was widely circulated on social media.
According to officials, preliminary information suggests that the video is not recent and is linked to a past altercation involving the family and their neighbours. However, police said immediate action was initiated after the video drew public attention.

An FIR has been registered at Police Station Tangmarg under relevant sections of law, and the accused has been detained for questioning, officials said, adding that further investigation is underway to ascertain all aspects of the incident.
The action was taken under the supervision of Sub-Divisional Police Officer Tangmarg Faizan Ali and Station House Officer Tangmarg Sheikh Adil. Police said strict legal action will be taken based on the outcome of the investigation.
“A video has been observed on social media in which individual is seen assaulting an elderly person, reportedly his father. In this regard, a case has been registered in PS Tangmarg, the individual has been detained and investiaation is underway,” the Tangmarg Police said in statement.(KNS)
