The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Srinagar has issued a weather advisory warning of two Western Disturbances likely to affect Jammu and Kashmir between January 22 and January 28, 2026.
According to the advisory, the first Western Disturbance will impact the region from January 22 to 24, with peak activity expected on January 23. During this period, widespread light to moderate rain and snowfall is expected, with heavy snowfall at isolated places, especially over the Pir Panjal Range, Chenab Valley, and middle to higher reaches of South Kashmir.
Areas likely to receive heavy snowfall include Anantnag, Pahalgam, Kulgam, Shopian, Gulmarg, Pir Ki Gali, Sonamarg–Zojila axis, Razdan Pass, Sadhna Pass, and parts of Doda, Udhampur, Reasi, Kishtwar, and Ramban.

The second Western Disturbance is expected from January 26 (night) to January 28 (forenoon), with peak intensity on January 27. Moderate to heavy rain and snowfall is again likely over higher and middle reaches of the Pir Panjal Range, Chenab Valley, and South Kashmir.
IMD has warned of disruption of road and air transport, including possible closures on the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway, landslides, mudslides, and gusty winds (40–60 kmph) at vulnerable locations, and avalanche risk in snow-bound and higher altitude areas.
Travelers, tourists, and transporters have been advised to plan movement carefully.
Residents in snow-bound areas should avoid venturing into avalanche-prone zones, while farmers are advised to suspend irrigation and chemical spray activities during the period.
Authorities have urged people to remain alert, follow official advisories, and keep essential supplies and medicines ready.
