Srinagar, Sept 14: Two local militants affiliated with AGuH militants outfit were killed in an encounter that broke out in Nowgam area of Srinagar this evening.
Quoting ADGP Vijay Kumar Kashmir Zone Police tweeted, “Killed #terrorists were affiliated with #terror outfit AGuH & identified as Aijaz Rasool Nazar of Pulwama & Shahid Ahmad @ Abu Hamza. They were involved in recent #terror attack on an outside labourer namely Muneer ul Islam from West Bengal on 2/9/22 in Pulwama.”
Meanwhile in a statement issued here, a police spokesman said that acting on specific information generated by Police regarding the presence of militants in Dangerpora area of Nowgam in district Srinagar, a joint cordon & search operation was launched by Police and Army (50RR) in the said area.
During the search operation, as the joint search party approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party which was retaliated effectively leading to an encounter.
He said that in the ensuing encounter, 02 militants were killed and their bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter. They have been identified as Aijaz Rasool Najar of Pulwama and Shahid Ahmad @Abu Hamza.
As per police records, both the killed militants were categorized and were linked with proscribed militants outfit AGuH. Both the killed militants were involved in several terror crime cases including attacks on Police/security forces and civilian atrocities.
Besides, they were also involved in recent attack on an outside labourer namely Muneer ul Islam of West Bengal on 02/09/2022 at Ugergund Newa area of Pulwama.
Incriminating materials, arms & ammunition including 01 AK series rifle, 02 Pistols and 01 Grenade were recovered from the site of encounter.
All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation.
In this regard, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered and investigation has been initiated. People are requested to cooperate with Police till the area at encounter site is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosive materials, if any, the spokesman added.
