Kashmir, Dec 10: In a significant boost to grassroots cricket in Jammu and Kashmir, two young players Shahid Mir from Tangmarg and Majid Yousuf Sheikh from Qazigund have secured ₹3 lakh contracts each for the upcoming Indian Street Premier League (ISPL) Season 3.
Tangmarg’s Shahid Mir, known for his consistent performances in street cricket, has been signed by the Bengaluru Strikers. His selection has triggered celebrations in Wahigund Tangmarg and the wider Baramulla district. Shahid thanked Affarwat XI Sports Club, Baramulla, along with his family, coaches and supporters, saying the opportunity motivates him to work harder and bring honour to Jammu & Kashmir.
In south Kashmir, Majid Yousuf Sheikh, son of a tailor from Panzath village in Qazigund, was picked by the Ahmedabad Lions in the Under-19 category. Majid, who is currently training at a cricket academy in Delhi, said going unsold in last year’s ISPL only pushed him to improve further. Calling the selection a major milestone, he said his dream is to wear the Indian jersey one day.
