Washington, Apr 15: US President Donald Trump, in an interview, has claimed that the ongoing conflict with Iran is “close to over,” saying Tehran would need decades to recover if the United States withdrew now.
Speaking in an interview with Fox News on Tuesday, Trump said he believed the war was nearing its end and defended US actions, alleging they prevented Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.
His remarks came shortly after US Central Command announced that all traffic to and from Iranian ports and coastal areas had been blocked in the first 24 hours of a US-led blockade, citing protection of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump also hinted at a possible second round of negotiations with Iran in Islamabad within the next two days after earlier talks reportedly failed to produce an agreement.
The President praised Asim Munir, saying the Pakistani military chief was doing a “great job” in facilitating dialogue.
No official confirmation has yet been issued regarding the next round of talks or the composition of the US negotiating team.
