Kupwara, Jun 28: Kupwara Police on Saturday apprehended a woman smuggler with narcotic substances during a surprise naka check in the Karnah area.
According to officials, a naka was laid by Police Station Karnah at Hyderpad Gomal. During the checking, a woman identified as Shafiya Begum, a resident of Karnah, was found walking on foot from Bagbella towards Tangdar. On spotting the police personnel, she tried to discard a black polythene bag she was carrying in an apparent attempt to evade detection.
The alert naka party swiftly recovered the bag and, upon search, found a heroin-like substance inside. The accused was immediately taken into custody.

An FIR No. 33/2025 under sections 8/21 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Karnah. Further investigation is underway to trace the wider network involved in the illegal trade.
Kupwara Police reiterated its firm resolve to continue its crackdown against drug peddlers and sought the continued cooperation of the public in the fight against the drug menace.
