Woman Killed, Six Injured as Landslide Hits Vehicle in J&K’s Doda

Doda, Oct 08: A woman was killed and six others were injured when a massive landslide triggered by falling stones struck a vehicle in the Baswal area near Bharath Bagla of Doda district on Wednesday.

According to official reports from the Associated Hospital Government Medical College (AHGMC) Doda, the mishap occurred when stones rolled down from a hilltop and hit a vehicle bearing registration number JK06C-0825, causing severe damage and injuries to those inside.

The deceased has been identified as Razia Begum, wife of Manzoor Ahmed, resident of Bharath Bagla. She was brought dead to the hospital.

Those injured in the incident include Sonia Devi (32), wife of Ranjeet Kumar; Zulaikha Begum (30), wife of Gulam Hussan; Kamran (22 months), son of Gulam Hassan; Gulam Hassan (31), son of Gulam Mohd; and Imran Hussain (4), son of Gulam Hassan, all residents of Bharath Bagla.

Hospital authorities confirmed that the injured were provided immediate medical attention and are currently under observation at AHGMC Doda. The condition of some injured individuals is reported to be stable.

Police and district administration teams reached the spot soon after the incident to carry out rescue operations and clear the debris. Traffic movement along the route was temporarily halted as a precautionary measure.

Locals said frequent landslides in the hilly stretches of Doda have become a recurring threat, especially during periods of unstable weather. Authorities have advised travelers to remain cautious while passing through vulnerable zones. (KNT)
