Srinagar, April 30: An elderly woman allegedly committed suicide by jumping into the River Jhelum in the Rajbagh area of Srinagar this morning.
Reports said the woman (name withheld), a resident of Palpora Sonwar allegedly jumped from the footbridge in Aramwari, Rajbagh.
Following the incident, a rescue operation was launched by the River Police Srinagar and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF). After sustained efforts, her body was recovered from the Jhelum and shifted to a hospital for medico-legal formalities.
Meanwhile, police have taken cognizance of the incident.
