Dozens of patients and attendants told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that they had to wait for hours at the hospital to get OPD tickets due to which patients are suffering.

They said that since morning there remains a huge rush of patients and attendants at the counters due to which patients had to spend hours standing together to get their turn.

The patients suggested that the administration should increase the number of counters to speed up the registration process.

Lateef Ahmad a patient told KNO that he visited GMC for some ailment but he was shocked when he had to remain standing in queue for around 2 hours to get OPD ticket at the hospital.

Another patient said poor patients had to come to the government hospitals out of helplessness, not by choice.

Patients and attendants requested administration to look into the matter and increase the number of counters so that patients can get treatment on time without waiting for hours in queue.

The hospital administration, however, cites the high patient load as the reason for the long queues. It also claims that there are multiple registration counters but a large number of patients reach there much before the registration process begins.

Principal GMC Anantnag told KNO that there are three registration counters outside and 2 counters inside for emergency patients, senior citizens and disabled patients.

Asked whether the hospital administration has any plans to increase the number of counters, he said: “Yes, we will increase it to eight counters which are under construction.”
