Ganderbal, Aug 29: Police in Ganderbal have taken swift action against two individuals accused of killing a stray dog in Safapora.
The case, which surfaced after videos and reports circulated on social media, drew widespread outrage over the cruelty involved. Police Station Safapora registered an FIR (No. 13/2025) under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and other relevant sections of law.
Both accused were soon identified and arrested, officials said, adding that further legal proceedings are in progress.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ganderbal, Khalil Ahmad Poswal (JKPS), condemned the act, stressing that animal cruelty is a punishable offence and will not be tolerated. He urged people to treat animals with kindness and to report such incidents immediately.
Police said they remain committed to enforcing the law, maintaining order, and promoting humane values in the district.
