The forecast also indicates a possibility of light showers in some areas, which could further help ease the prevailing hot conditions.

According to the data shared by the Meteorological Department, the intense heatwave continued across the Union Territory on Monday, with Srinagar recording a maximum temperature of 31.8 degrees Celsius — 5.8 degrees above the normal.

Qazigund, the gateway of Kashmir, recorded a maximum temperature of 31.3 degrees Celsius, while Kupwara in north Kashmir registered 30.8 degrees Celsius. Kokernag also recorded 30.8 degrees Celsius. Gulmarg, known for its cool climate and skiing slopes, recorded a relatively lower temperature of 22.8 degrees Celsius.

In the Jammu division, a slight improvement in temperatures was witnessed. Jammu city recorded 37.5 degrees Celsius, while Banihal, Batote, Katra, and Bhaderwah reported 29.1°C, 27.7°C, 35.2°C, and 29.6°C, respectively.

Director MeT, Dr Mukhtar Ahmad, told that the weather is expected to remain “generally hot and dry” from May 27 to May 31. However, there is a possibility of a brief spell of light rain and thundershowers at scattered places, which could bring much-needed relief to the region.
