Srinagar, Jun 10: A tragic incident occurred in Srinagar’s Sonwar area on Tuesday after a woman accidentally slipped into the Jhelum River and drowned.
The deceased has been identified as Mumtaza, wife of Abdul Hameed Wani, a resident of Sonwar. Officials said the incident took place near the footbridge in Sonwar, where she accidentally fell into the river.
Soon after the incident, locals, along with the River Police and SDRF, launched a rescue operation. Her body was later fished out and shifted to the hospital for medico-legal formalities.

Police have taken cognizance of the matter and further investigation is underway.
