In a statement, a police spokesman said that acting on credible information, Zakoora police identified Ab Hameed Kuchay, a resident of Soura and operator of Sunshine Foods at SICOP Zakoora, as a key suspect in a criminal conspiracy to supply decomposed meat unfit for consumption.
He is alleged to have conspired with Arif Ahmad Shah, a resident of Baghat Barzulla, to distribute large quantities of rotten meat to restaurants and hotels across Srinagar, he said.
Police warned that this deliberate distribution of unsafe meat poses a serious threat to public health and constitutes a grave offence under the law.
Following the discovery, FIR No. 48/2025 was registered at Police Station Zakoora under sections 271, 275, and 61(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Investigations are ongoing, the spokesman added.
