Setting an example in the business field, dozens of girls from the southern district of Kashmir have managed to set up their unit of spices, pickles and other related things, making their name in the market.

With the support of NRLM, the young girls have defeated all odds by successfully setting up their own business unit at Umeed community bazaar in Mehmoodabad area of Dooru in Anantnag district.

At least 50 girls are earning their livelihood at the unit where they manufacture spices and make other eatable products like pickles and other things.

Urfi Jan, who hails from Verinag, Batagund area told Asian News Hub (ANH) that presently 50 girls are earning their livelihood at the unit, which has been established with the help of NRLM.

“We are associated with NRLM since 2013 and the number of girls working at the unit has increased from 6 to 50 at present,” she said.

She further added that it was quite difficult to come up with a business unit, being a girl, but now the time has changed as they are getting support from each and everyone, thus helping them to move ahead with the mission of achieving the goal.

Zahida Shameem, another member of the Self Help Group told ANH, who hails from Larkipora area of Anantnag, said that they are preparing ghee, pickles, spices and other things.

“We have been able to earn a profit of nearly Rs 4 lakh in the past 3-4 months only. We are hopeful that we will achieve our goal,” she said.

She asked the young girls, who aspire to do anything in their life, to come out of their homes and start afresh and earn their name in the markets.

Pertinently, all 50 girls engaged with the unit belong to Anantnag district.
