Shopian, Sept 12: Shopian Police has booked two notorious thieves under the Public Safety Act (PSA) for their repeated involvement in criminal activities.
The accused have been identified as Altaf Mushtaq Ganie, son of Mushtaq Ahmad Ganie of Meemander Shopian, and Showkat Ahmad Wani, son of Gh. Nabi of Astan Mohalla Arhama Shopian.
Police said both men have been active criminals since 2016, with a total of 12 FIRs registered against them at Police Station Shopian. Altaf is named in seven cases while Showkat is involved in five. Despite multiple arrests and court proceedings, the duo allegedly continued with theft, burglary, intimidation and other crimes after being released on bail, posing a constant threat to public peace.

After completing legal formalities, detention orders were obtained from the District Magistrate Shopian. Both accused were subsequently lodged in District Jail Udhampur.
Police said it remains committed to protecting public life and property and will continue its tough stance against habitual offenders to ensure peace and order in the district.
