Severe cold wave grips Kashmir, Shopian records season’s coldest night

Srinagar, Jan 29: Biting cold conditions intensified in most parts of Kashmir on Friday, with Shopian recording the coldest night of the season at minus 14.1 degrees Celsius.

As per Kashmir Weather, an independent weather forecaster, Srinagar city — the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir — recorded a low of minus 7.7 degrees Celsius, down from minus 5.6 degrees Celsius the previous night.

In the tourist resort of Gulmarg, the minimum temperature settled at minus 11.5 degrees Celsius compared to minus 13.4 degree Celsius the night earlier.

The night temperature in Qazigund in south Kashmir settled at the low of minus 10.8, compared to previous night’s minus 10.5°C.

The minimum in Kupwara, in north Kashmir, went down from minus 2.2 degrees Celsius yesterday to settle at minus 3.0 degrees Celsius, while Kokernag town in south registered the low of minus 11.4 degrees Celsius.

‘Cold wave to severe cold wave’ condtions likely to continue till Sunday.
