Srinagar, Sept 24: The Election Commission has announced that elections for four Rajya Sabha seats from Jammu and Kashmir will be held on October 24, 2025.
As per the current strength of parties in the Assembly, the National Conference (NC) is in a strong position to secure three seats, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is expected to win one seat.
Under the proportional representation system with single transferable vote (STV), the winning quota is calculated by dividing the total valid votes by the number of seats to be filled plus one, and then adding one to the result.

Based on the Assembly numbers, the quota works out to around 45 votes for a single seat. In the case of two seats notified together, the quota comes down to about 31 votes each.
The elections are significant as the four Rajya Sabha seats from J&K have remained vacant since 2021. The outcome will not only give NC a larger voice in the Upper House but will also ensure BJP retains its presence.
