Talking exclusively with the Asian News Hub (ANH), Chief Engineer, KPDCL, Javed Yousuf Dar said that the KPDCL has already come up with an online facility for the consumers, where they can register themselves for the new connections. “Such a facility has been made available to ease the procedure for the consumers,” he said.

He added that over 90,000 smart meters have been installed so far across Kashmir and the process is still going on. He also said that at present only postpaid facility is there for the consumers, but soon prepaid facility will be launched, which would be most preferable by the consumers.

About power curtailments, he said, “I am happy to inform that there has been drastic reduction in the power cuts in the next two years, especially in the winters. In this winter too, 14 feeders including eight in Srinagar witnessed less curtailments as there has been 100 per cent metering and other related things.”

“You may have noticed that the power cuts have reduced already. The situation will improve further when the process will be completed and the consumers will also use electricity judiciously,” he said.

“We are moving towards a scenario where 24/7 electricity is possible with the help of RDSS scheme. In first phase, Srinagar and other major towns will be completed and next year, other areas will be completed, which would help to ensure proper load check,” he said.

He also said that the electricity tariff was hiked recently and at present, there are no plans to hike the tariff further.
