Ganderbal, July 14: A young woman, mother of two children, was allegedly raped and murdered in Safapora area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, triggering shock and protests across the locality.
Speaking to the media, SSP Ganderbal, Khalil Ahmad Poswal, said, “The incident seemed suspicious, and we felt that a post-mortem was necessary. Accordingly, a team was constituted for thorough investigation.”
He confirmed that during the investigation, one suspect has been detained. “We are in the process of collecting the sequence of events, and an FIR has been registered. Strict action will be taken against anyone found involved,” he said.

The SSP further stated that the deceased woman is survived by two children. “Their welfare is our concern. We have assured the public that justice will be ensured. Action will also be taken against anyone who supported or assisted the accused in any way,” he added.
Meanwhile, the case, now being treated as a suspected rape and murder, has deeply disturbed the local community. Protests have erupted in the area, demanding accountability and swift punishment for those responsible.
Police have appealed to the public to cooperate in the investigation and report any information relevant to the case.
