Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid Srinagar Saturday expressed surprise and regret over the continuous house arrest of its head Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Dr Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq, thereby disallowing him from performing his official duties, which is unfortunate.

Anjuman in a statement cited by news agency—KNO said that Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir, on the invitation of Idarah Gousia Sarai Bala Srinagar, was supposed to address a Seerat Majlis organised in connection with the Urs Mubarak of Hazrat Peeran-e-Peer Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jeelani (RA), but the state administration without giving any reasonable reason did not allow him to go there.

“Such attitude of the state administration towards Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir, who has been under continuous house arrest since October 15, 2023, only hurts the sentiments of the Muslims here,” it said.

A large number of people had gathered in Aastan Ghousiya Sarai Bala to listen to the sermon of Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir, but they were deeply disappointed.

On the one hand, the administration claims that the conditions are now favourable in Kashmir but on the other hand, it is imposing restrictions on purely religious programmes, which is beyond our understanding, the Auqaf said.
