Masjid, two structures damaged in Srinagar blaze

Srinagar, May 17: A masjid sharief, residential house and a wooden structure suffered damages in a fire incident in Shamaswari area of Babademb Srinagar this morning.

An F&ES official told Asian News Hub that a three-storey Masjid Sharief, annexed with a double-storey wooden structure with a GCI sheet roof, were involved in a fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

He said the attic portion, including the roofing, ceiling, doors, windows, and ceiling of the second floor of Masjid Sharief, along with the roofing, ceiling, doors, windows, and kitchenware items of the first floor of the wooden structure, were severely damaged.

Additionally, the doors and windows of the first floor of Masjid Sharief were partly damaged in the fire. Disposal items on the ground floor of the wooden structure and some glasses of an adjacent three-storey residential house sustained indirect damage due to heat and water, he said.

Meanwhile, police have taken cognizance of the incident.
